Your local news, but faster
Campbell Publications was purchased by Greg Hoskins, proprietor of Better Newspapers, Inc., in June. With the purchase, Better Newspapers absorbed the Calhoun News-Herald, Greene Prairie Press, Jersey County Journal, Pike Press, Scott County Times and Pike Reporter.
Headquartered at the Jerseyville office, these six publications have been distinguished as the River County News division.
Your local newspaper will remain the same, with coverage focused on your area. Hoskins has promised to maintain the same integrity and coverage as the three generations of Campbells who ran the newspapers before him.
In keeping with our century-old commitment, we are striving to bring our newspapers into the digital age to reach a new generation of readers. You can still expect to see our issues on the racks around your town and in your driveway, but we’ve now added a new and improved website for more convenient and timely access to the news that impacts your community.
It’s important to us that you receive information about our leadership, services and trends that will impact your accessibility to your local news.
Our goal with this new website is to provide our visitors with a more navigable site under one regional umbrella.
Included among the new website’s features are tabs that will differentiate between the multiple publications we provide in the River County News area. For example, when you click on the sports tab, you will see options for Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, Pike and Scott, instead of having to wade through multiple news sites and county stories. This feature likewise exists for obituaries, school news, church news, and other realms of coverage.
For those who still prefer to read the newspaper in the format you’ve come to know and appreciate, there is an E-Edition available for all our publications, as well.
Previous issues will also be available for viewing on the website by clicking on the E-Edition tab and clicking on the Archives sub-tab.
Of course, we’ll be continuing with the tried and true paper that you can hold in your hands, but with our online option, you’ll have access to late-breaking news, top photos of the week, video of the week, and other features as well.
If you have any questions regarding these upcoming changes, please call our office, 618-498-1234.
Advertisers will still be able to submit their advertisements through the website, in addition to calling Jane Morgan, our advertising manager, at the office. Advertising space will also be available on the website.
Print edition subscribers receive free online access for one year. For Jerseyville readers, online access requires a paid subscription because the print edition is delivered for free.
This website is a major step in bringing the news from your hometown to your fingertips faster, but it’s also a place where you can reach us as well. Submit photos, news tips and announcements, all without leaving the comfort of your home.
