Several factors contribute to flash flooding. The two key elements are rainfall intensity and duration. Intensity is the rate of rainfall, and duration is how long the rain lasts. Unfortunately, Calhoun County is no stranger to this kind of weather. On Friday night, severe thunderstorms hit Calhoun County and it seemed Kampsville got the worst of it.
“Everyone was safe and no one got hurt,” Mayor Wade Gibson said. “ It was crazy we had over 2 inches of rainfall in less than 20 minutes.”
This past weekend was the Kampsville Celebration and luckily the flooding near the Pavillion cleared out very quickly.
Gibson said the campgrounds are still open and there were no plans to cancel the celebration on Saturday.
“Kampsville Celebration went on as planned, the water was completely gone and the parade and BBQ cookoff was a go,” Gibson said. “The show must go on.”
In spite of the weather the night before the celebration was a huge success.
Gibson was extremely grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s celebration a success.
“To our Village Trustees, Village Clerk, and Village Treasurer, thank you for all your work. Thank you to everyone who helped run the stage, pageants, music line up we enjoyed every minute. Thank you to everyone who made the Village of Kampsville Celebration Parade a huge success can’t wait until next year,” Gibson said.
Wade also wanted to mention that he is thankful to the businesses for your donations for the town stands, gift cards, and most of all choosing Kampsville as your home.Thank you to all the vendors for coming and being a part of the celebration,” Gibson said.“I want to take this time and say thank you to the Kampsville Celebration Committee for all and I mean all the hard work you guys put into this years event. Thank you to all the volunteers that worked Friday and Saturday setting up stands, stage, bleachers, lights, ect. It does take a village.”
Gibson said he was grateful for the Calhoun Fire Department for all the work with the Parade, Traffic Control, and helping with the landing of the Arch Helicopter throughout the day.
“Also thank you to the Calhoun Sheriff Department and Calhoun Ambulance for keeping us safe,” he finished
Gibson also mentioned he was extremely happy for the winners of the BBQ cookoff and can’t wait to watch the Kampsville Royalty represent The Village of Kampsville.
