Kampsville Celebration was a huge success – It Takes a Village!
Our village definitely didn’t disappoint after two years of not having our Kampsville Celebration due to flooding and the Pandemic. We came back bigger and better than ever . We kicked off the morning with the barbecue competition with 17 teams. Anyone who did the taste testing can tell you it was good! The Celebration then began with a Parade bigger than we ever could’ve hoped for in our first year to have it. The parade was enjoyed by all ages and I think everyone who attended young or old went home with plenty of candy and treats.
On the festival grounds we then kicked off with the National Anthem sung by Emma Godar and the flag raising by American Legion Post 1083. Terry McBride and Samual Mielke entertained the crowd with music until time for the pageants. Representing Kampsville this year will be Shawn McKinnon-Baby Kampsville, Exlee Reno-Toddler Kampsville, Harry Hayn-Little Mr. Kampsville and Baylee Johns Little Miss Kampsville.
We then had a friendly competition with games like Cookie Stacking, Cookie Eating, Watermelon Eating and Hula-Hooping. All ages joined in on the fun. Assisting me all day on the stage was Miss Calhoun, Junie Zirkelbach, Lindsey Taul, Reagan Clendenny, Olivia Clowers, Rayna Zirkelbach, Emily McBride and Colleen Schumann.
Early evening we brought back a crowd favorite “The Couples Game”. Six couples competed to see how much they really knew about each other. Marcia and Billy Agney, Ed and Amanda Johnson, Albert and Cherye Melinthen, Karl and Angie Suhling, Britney and Stephen Hayn and Kolton and Kelsey Latham. Britney and Stephen Hayn were the winners.
Following the couples game, Entertainment was provided by “Calhoun County Accident “ up until the fabulous fireworks.
Of course that’s just what happened on the stage. Our ground crew kept things also going smoothly all day.
Kids games were a huge hit especially with new fun ones added this year.
The bounce houses provided entertainment as well as pony rides, the petting zoo and the wobble wagon.
Center for American Archeology and McCully Heritage Project provided a fun area with spear throwing. Arch Helicopter was here and lots of young ones enjoyed getting their picture sitting in it. The Calhoun County Health Department had a “Safe House”.
Lots of food stands and treats as well as craft vendors.
Marcia Agney put together a fabulous raffle full of baskets and gift certificates.
The quilt donated by Diana Young was won by Pat Gotway.
Huge shout out to Mayor Wade Gibson and James Palmer who spent their day making sure everything was running smoothly.
Thank you Shawn Shewmake and Simon Taylor for all of your hard work setting up and cleaning up the trash on Monday.
We truly had every age in our town working on this Celebration. To keep a town prosperous you have to keep working. You have to combine old ideas and young ideas for continued growth.
We are all working together in Kampsville for the continued betterment of our village.
We are still selling chances on our Christmas quilt made and donated by Pat Gotway. We will be drawing for that on old settlers weekend!
Winners of the Kampsville American Legion Auxiliary raffle were Tammy Betts, Fire Pit. Tammy Betts, Insta Pot and Hanson’s Gift Certificate. Zella Blumenberg Wooden Pieces and Lap Throw . The gun was won by James Ewen.
We are very fortunate here in Kampsville to have the amazing crew on the Kampsville Ferry that we do. We have some of the best guys around. With a bridge being out of commission on Sunday our guy sprung into action getting two ferries going and even giving up their Sunday off. Please remember even if you have to wait a little bit and it’s an inconvenience be kind and have patience.
Daisy and Weston Waters celebrated their first birthday this weekend. They participated in the parade in their new wagon and slept through most of it. They enjoyed the pageants and then that evening had a Mickey and Minnie party at their house hosted by their parents, Luke and Amanda Waters.
Congratulations Kynan and Wendi Miele they welcomed their very first grandchild a beautiful granddaughter J Capps.
Congratulations to Luke and Rachelle Hillen on the birth of their son Reign Jonathan born August 9 weighing 6 lbs. 11 1/2 oz. his big sisters Reese, Lennox and Leland and big brother Roman are very excited to welcome him to their family.
