David L. Sappington | 87 | Pittsfield

David L. Sappington, age 87, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield.  He was born on July 1, 1934 in Bluffs, IL to Lester L. and Bernice A.E. Mueller Sappington.  He married Ruby Wainman and to this union had three children, Vicki, Mike, and Chris.  He later married Elaisa Consuelo (Connie) Espinoza on April 24, 1975 and she survives.

David graduated from Griggsville High School and shortly after enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He served his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1956.  David worked for Electric Wheel in Quincy, the Cardinal Inn and Maschhoff’s retiring in 2019.  He enjoyed mushroom hunting, lawn care and playing cards. He was known to have a cold beer or two with his friends, enjoying their company.

Surviving are his wife, Connie of 46 years; children, Vicki (Jeff) Prather of Troy, MO, Michael (Jacki Pellinghelli) Sappington of Nebo, IL, and Chris (Mike) Spohr of Fowler, IL; six grandchildren, Tyler Prather, Trent Prather, Keenan (Kelsi) Sappington, Cole Smith, Carly (Traye) Labby and Collin Smith; along with seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his special beagle, Daisy Mae.  He also leaves behind seven stepchildren, Stella (Dave) Buck, Jay (Jenifer) Pleus, Gary (Sherry) Pleus, Jackie Miller, Jeanice Thomason, Roger Pleus, and Drake Pleus; ten step grandchildren, Clint, Patrick, Heidi, Holly, Chris, Elisha, Lauren, Jonathon, Trevor and Carson; and twelve step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Russell Sappington; sisters, Catherine Sontag and Connie Baker; stepdaughter, Shirley Pleus Ator; and grandson, Geoff Thomason.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Interment will follow at Griggsville Cemetery in Griggsville, IL.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the Pike County Animal Shelter.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
