September is here, and so are the hot days of summer and apple season. Labor Day is this Sunday, Sept. 6. The Calhoun County Fair begins and will be held on Sept. 9 to Sept. 12. Advanced tickets for the fair are available for purchase at the banks.
Bernie and Robin Hillen and Mary Ann Bailey attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church, on Saturday to celebrate the one year anniversary of Lowell Bailey’s passing. Later the family joined them at the Hillen home to celebrate Mary Ann’s 86th birthday. The grandchildren and great grandchildren made her day complete. Happy birthday Mary Ann.
Claire Bick celebrated her 6th birthday on Saturday with parents Dave and Rachel Bick, and brother Levi, their playmates, Grandpa and Grandma, and Lindy and Martha Bick at the Winneberg Pool. They enjoyed swimming, water play and refreshments.
Verann Klockenkemper had an outting with a group of her friends who used to work with her at AT&T in St. Louis. It was held at Tony’s Restraunt in St. Charles last Saturday. Klockenkemper said, “Getting together with old and true friends made it a wonderful day.”
Linda Russell enjoyed visiting with Jeremy and Angie Russell and daughters Zoe and Sadie Saturday. Jeremy mowed the lawn and Angie and the girls spent time talking about recent vacation trips.
Nick Siemer and family, Larry and Stacie Boist and Tim Siemer enjoyed supper together at the Fill Inn Station Saturday night.
Mary Ann Flanigan received word of the death of her brother, Valentine Klunk, age 90 of Morton, Ill. He was the son of the late Evelyn and Val Klunk Sr. of Michael. He is survived by his wife, Pat, his three daughters, two sons and numerous grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, including local residents, Marjorie Johnes of Kampsville, and Mary Ann Bailey of Meppen, and one brother, Jim Klunk of Fieldon.
Verann Klockenkemper visited Ted and Elda Hayn and their daughter, Tonya, Saturday. Elda said she enjoys hearing about her friends and relatives in the Batchtown area.
After the funeral Saturday of Bill Titus, many relatives stopped by to see Wilma Krysl. They were Gary and Jan Kallal, Matt and Brook Revelle, Tim and Michelle Wieneke, Gene and Paula Howell, Juliann Underhill, John and Belinda Crotty and Elaine Titus
On Sunday Wilma, and Elaine visited with Mike and Linda Funk of Batchtown.
The St. Louis Food Bank will be at the Riverdock Restaurant parking lot this Wednesday, Sept. 1, because the food truck will be there by 10 a.m. Plan on getting there early to get in line and to volunteer to work if you can.
The St. Vincent De Paul Society can help with rent, utilities, GED, mortgage and assistance with other agencies. Call the volunteer hotline at 618-310-1411.
Fall Bible study on the Acts of the Apostles will be held Mondays 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hall in Brussels. Join us for the study of the spread of the kingdom during the first 30 days after Pentecost. The study meets from Sept. 13 – Nov. 22 for the first half of the Book of Acts
Finley Klocke is one year old. He celebrated his birthday Saturday, Aug 28 at the Town Park and Village Hall. His parents are Kyle and Rachel Klocke, grandparents are Keith and Hope Klocke, and Kevin and Chris Blumenberg. Finley also had a chance to celebrate with his great grandparents: Ellen Klocke, Shirley Blumenberg and Irene Wallendorf.
The Calhoun Red Hatters are going to eat breakfast at the Ill. Riverdock Restraunt Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. Call Vera Droege or Elsie Kirn to make reservations.
Riley Rutherford was honored with a bridal shower at the Moose Lodge in Litchfield Sunday. Those attending from the area were: Barbara Bick, Gertie Snyders, Martha Bick, Rachel Bick, Denise Bick, Michelle Bick, Becca Osborne and Debra Bixber from St. Charles.
Mattie Wallendorf celebrated her eight birthday Aug. 30. Happy birthday Mattie.
