Nerves can set an athletes’ mental focus and cause many volleyball players to have a mental block during a game. Some volleyball players are more nervous than some of their teammates, but nerves and the pressure to win the match determines whose team will rise to the occasion or who will fall.
Calhoun High School(CHS) Volleyball team started their season on Monday at the Roxana tournament.
“Our first game was against Auburn. Our nerves got us and we lost in 3, 17-25, 25-23 and 10-15. I would like to face them again, I know we could bet them,” Calhoun High School volleyball coach Melissa Zipprich said. “After that, our nerves calmed and we started to mesh as a team. We then proceeded to win our next two games.”
CHS then went on to beat Brussels in 3, 25-20, 24-26 and 15-7. The Warriors beat southwestern 25-14 and 25-19.
“Over all, I am very proud of the way the girls played. We have a very young team and they did great for their first varsity games,” Zipprich said.
