Calhoun District 40 held its school board meeting on Sept. 17 and several issues were brought and approved by the board that night.
It was announced at the meeting that a tentative budget was provided and will be on display at the district office. A budget hearing will be held to adopt the budget at the Sept. 21 meeting.
The high school driveway still needs to be finished but due to the rain and the CES project, the county is behind in getting it done. The new water hook-up will take place this fall and classes will not be interrupted by the installation.
“The water hook-up is being paid for from the DCEO water grant the district received,” Superintendent Andrea Lee said.
Lee also mentioned that the school has filled all open positions for the 2021-2022 school year. “However, we can always use substitutes in all areas,” Lee said.
“We have also submitted the EIS report, which is a required report sent to Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The report sent to ISBE concerns our teacher and administrative salaries. It is submitted once a year and it is a requirement for the district,” Lee continued.
In other news, Lee said there were bids made for school equipment. She mentioned that there will be new cafeteria tables in the school cafeteria. “We are transitioning to new table and chairs and the old picnic style tables are for sale. We also had an embroidery machine donated to the school and the machine was given to the school before COVID. It was decided that it was not going to be used and is for sale too,” Lee said.
Lee also said that the school board approved the CHS scholastic bowl coach, Heather Reed. The CJHS scholastic bowl coach for this year will be Michelle Krysl.
There will be a Volunteer Assistant CHS cheer coach, a position for which Pam Browning has volunteered. “The board has reaffirmed coaching stipend positions for this year and the CHS track coach is Zach Smith and Sue Nelson has been hired as the new fifth and six grade basketball coach. The board also approved Lacey Cummings as Paraprofessional,” Lee explained. “The board made a motion and approved the FFA trip to The National Convention in Indiana. They also approved the CEA contract, the District offices’ contracts and the administrators’ contracts for this school year.”
