The Calhoun/Brussels varsity football team was away on Friday, Sept 3.
Despite the score, the Warriors gave their best effort as a team.
On Sept. 3, the Calhoun/Brussels varsity football team lost their away game against Unity/Seymour (Mendon, IL) by a score of 32-6. Despite their best efforts the Warriors had 7 turnovers which led to the teams downfall that night. Cecil Hunt scored three touchdowns- 64 yard run, a 29 yard run and 94 yard run. The Mustangs took the lead and won the game with another touchdown because Ryle Duke threw a 40 yard pass from Cody Shaffer.
In the second quarter, the Warriors scored a touchdown due to the tight spiral arm pass from Hunter Roth as Jon Stein caught the 13 yard pass.
“Mendon is a good team with lots of team speed. We knew going in that there would be challenges for us as so many players were banged up and not playing. Our guys fought hard to the end. We had some young players step up and give their best,” The Warriors Head Coach Aaron Elmore said. “The final score is not a true indication of what happened in the game. Our defense played well. We were just on the field way too long. We gave them so many more opportunities than you can if you expect to win.”
Elmore said the 2 yard punt, which was a dropped punt return and the Warriors, put the ball on the ground 10 other times, losing 7 of them.
“We are hoping to get some guys back from injury before this week’s West Central game,” Elmore said.
The Warriors are now 0-2 this season.
