On Sept. 11, 2001, a terrorist attack on New York City’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., stunned the world and left a scar in the hearts and memories of Americans. On that day three hijacked planes crashed into iconic American Trades buildings. Nearly 3,000 people died that day, including the 40 passengers on United Airlines Flight 93, who crashed a fourth plane into a field in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Emotions were high, tears were shed and Americans were angry from the attack that happened on the American homefront. The weeks that followed brought national sorrow and began the war in Afghanistan that became America’s longest conflict.
