Congratulations to our Calhoun Royalty! Busy weekend at the Fairgrounds with tractor pulls, demolition derby, judging of produce, crafts, etc., entertainment, parade and last but not least the crowning of Little Miss Harlow Hayn, Little Mister Braxton King, Junior Miss Reagan Clendenny and the grand finale on Sunday evening, the crowning of Miss Calhoun County, Alexis Klocke. Weather was beautiful for all the activities and many were in attendance to enjoy it.
Those who attended the Farm Progress Show in Decatur recently were Kent and Brent Schulze, Eddie Plummer and Aiden, Paul Schulze, Terry Kirn and Ethan, Jed Struse and Denny Kiel. Sounds like they had a great day attending the nation’s largest outdoor farm event. There were hundreds of exhibitors, all the latest farm products to check out and even the specialists who developed, tested and designed them.
A Bridal Shower honoring Katie Held was held recently at the home of her parents Mike and Linda Held in Godfrey. Katie will become the bride of Craig Kinder on October 9. Many family members from this area were in attendance. Katie is the granddaughter of Jeanette Held (and the late Louis Held) and also the late John and Frances Nolte. Craig is the son of David Kinder of Alton and Holly Rain of Godfrey, and the grandson of Vern and Judy Kinder of Alton.
The Bieker family of Golden Eagle had a get-together on Labor Day weekend. Those in attendance were Betty Bieker, Don and JoAnn Bieker, Dylan Bieker and Dellaray Hilemen, Tony and Nancy Bieker of Decatur, Richard Bieker of Fieldon, Bill and Judy Heim and Jim and Jeneane Diffenderfer of Perry, MO and Derick and Emily Stichling and Landon of St. Louis. Everyone enjoyed all the great food, visiting and taking lots of photos.
Barb Ward of Taylorville spent Labor Day weekend with her mother, Marie Held and other family members in the area.
Joey and Chelsie Kiel and Derek and Lyndsi Sievers attended the Brooks and Dunn Concert “Reboot 2021” on September 3 at the Hollywood Amphitheater in St. Louis. They all agreed it was a wonderful night of entertainment.
My son John Carnes of Edwardsville spent a day last weekend with me. Of course he did the usual mowing, trimming, garden work, plus several inside jobs for me. Can’t thank him enough for giving up so much of his time to help on the farm.
Jim Held of Alton was a visitor this past Thursday of his mother Marie Held. Before making the trip up here he always stops by Duke’s Bakery and brings various bakery items for a coffee break and extra for her to enjoy during the week.
On Saturday Yvonne and George Baecht hosted a family get together at their home. The occasion was the celebration of the recent birthday of George, Matthew and Samuel Baecht of Jerseyville and LeeAnn Baecht of Brookline, MO. Also present were Keith and Becky Baecht, Daniel Baecht and Conner and Lynette Eberhardt of Chenoa, IL. Lynette remained overnight and after church and lunch on Sunday she returned home. Sounds like they all had a great day of celebrating.
