Senior Rhiannon Hazelwonder blocks a shot at the net as the Lady Spartans held on to defeat Bunker Hill.
The North Greene Lady Spartans volleyball team played host to Bunker Hill last week and gave the fans their money’s worth.
The JV team won their match in straight sets, the varsity, however, would keep the fans on the edge of their seats.
The Varsity girls got off to a good start, but let a good size lead slip away and ended up losing the first game 20-25.
In the second game, Bunker Hill, fueled by their win in the first game, built up a good lead, but the Lady Spartans kept fighting and eventually tied the game. The lead would change hands at least six times before the Lady Spartans finally pulled out a 26-24 win in what can only be described as a true nail-biter.
In the third game, the momentum was on the side of the Lady Spartans, but Bunker Hill was not to be counted out just yet. It wasn’t until Bailey Berry got the ball to serve that Bunker Hill was put away for good. A string of several straight points was enough to add a win for the Spartans 25-19.
