Jacksonville Memorial Hospital will offer free breast cancer screenings for uninsured or underinsured women and extended hours for all women to schedule their annual mammograms during October as part of Mammogram Mondays.
The screenings will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m. on each Monday in October at the nonprofit hospital, 1600 W. Walnut Ave. To schedule an appointment, call 217-479-5696.
Appointments are required; no walk-ins are available.
A physician’s order is required. If patients do not have a doctor, the hospital will provide a physician’s order. The Mia Ware Foundation provides the funding for Mammogram Mondays at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.
“Even during a pandemic, it’s important that women keep up with their yearly breast cancer screenings,” Amanda Vortman, lead mammography technologist at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, said. “Putting off getting a mammogram is taking a risk because early detection of breast cancer through mammograms significantly increases survivability.”
Free mammograms are being offered at all five Memorial Health hospitals in Decatur, Jacksonville, Lincoln, Springfield and Taylorville throughout October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
