Janice Liming | 95 | White Hall
Janice Liming, age 95, formally of White Hall, IL, passed away on September 28, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Hospital, in Lima, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Peoria, IL the daughter of Edwin and Eva (Henderson) Nortrup on October 15, 1925. She married Bruce Foster Liming on June 12, 1955 in Meredosia, IL, and he preceded her in death in 2007.
Janice graduated from Meredosia High School at age 16 and went on to attend Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL, where she earned an Associate Degree in Elementary Education. She went on to Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL and obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She taught first grade in Meredosia for many years before spending the majority of her career teaching kindergarten in White Hall at North Greene Elementary. She retired in 1988 after 37 years of teaching. Janice was a member of the First Baptist Church in White Hall. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #70. She was also a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. Janice loved spending time with her family above anything. She enjoyed reading and always had a crossword or sudoku puzzle book nearby. She also loved watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and seldom missed a game.
Janice was preceded in death by: her parents; her two infant children; her brothers, Delbert and Eldred Nortrup; a sister, Joyce Langley; and an infant great-grandson, Jacob Naughton.
Janice is survived by: daughter, Debra (Ted) Powell of Lima, OH; nephew, Mike (Becca) Fernandes, who she raised in her home; grandchildren, Andrea (Dr. Charles) Potter, with whom she resided in Lima, OH, Travis Dyer of Clearwater, FL, Lindsay Rivera of Pittsfield, IL, and Addie Powell of Lima, OH; great-grandchildren, Samantha Sturgeon, twins Cassandra and Carly Potter and Lauren Potter, all of Lima, OH, CayleeAnn Fernandes of Pittsfield, IL, Clayton, Logan, and Kolby Fernandes, as well as Chase Jones. Janice is also survived by great-grandchildren, Erryn Rivera, Aliyah, Jordan, and Jaxten Naughton of Pittsfield, IL; as well as great-great-grandson, Nolan Miller of Lima, OH.
A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at White Hall Cemetery in White Hall, Illinois.
