Capitol Storage owner Mike Evans shows off new self-storage units available at the company’s new 30’ by 200’ building in Winchester. The new building doubles the capacity of the business. Capitol Storage is located at 342 W. Cross St. and may be contacted at 217-742-0110.
Capitol Storage, located at 342 West Cross Street in Winchester, recently opened a new self-storage building – doubling the size of the storage facility.
According to Capitol Storage owner Mike Evans, construction of the new building was necessary, because the company’s existing 30’ by 200’ self-storage building – in operation by Capitol Storage since 2012 – was at capacity.
“I had one building,” Evans said. “It’s been full. I just built another 44-unit self-storage building.”
Evans said the expansion is an effort to meet the storage needs of local residents.
“We want to accommodate the citizens of Winchester and Scott County,” Evans said.
Self-storage units, according to Evans, are available now.
“We’re ready to rent,” Evans said.
Self-storage units are available to residents in the following dimensions:
■ 5’ by 10’
■ 10’ by 10’
■ 10’ by 15’
■ 10’ by 20’
Also on the West Cross Street site, Evans operates Capitol Fulfillment, which helps satisfy dozens of companies’ online orders placed by customers across the country.
“We’re a fulfillment center for 20 to 25 companies associated with Amazon,” Evans said. “We send out packages every day. We’re also a return service for Amazon.”
Evans reported that the online shopping business is a near-constant source of work for the company.
“People are buying machines,” Evans said. “Americans sit at home and buy.”
In turn, Evans said Capitol Fulfillment employees are on hand in Winchester to satisfy customer orders.
“When they buy the items we have here, we ship them out,” Evans said.
According to Evans, the storage and fulfillment business requires several employees in Winchester to keep up with demand.
“We try to keep 10 employees going,” Evans said. “It’s going all the time.”
For more information on the business or to rent a self-storage unit, contact Capitol at 217-742-0110. Evans stated that office staff is typically available Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
