Sharon Held McLeod of Billings, Montana has been spending the past two weeks with her mother, Marie Held in Brussels. Last week they spent an enjoyable 3 days in Taylorville as guest of Barb Ward, Marie’s other daughter. This past weekend Barb drove down and visited with them. I know it’s going to be quite lonesome for Marie once everyone is gone, after having someone with her 24 hours a day for two weeks. Stop by to visit or give her a call to let her know you are thinking of her.
What a pleasant surprise last Monday evening when I watched Channel 5 News at 5 p.m. They interviewed a COVID patient at SSM St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Charles and I recognized his nurse was my granddaughter Ashley Kirn of Wentzville. Afterwards Ashley, who is a charge nurse of this unit, was also interviewed. If you know of a healthcare worker, please pray for them daily. They are working 12 or more stressful hours a day, most days skipping lunch or even a potty break. They have compassion, empathy and being there in life’s toughest moments, they certainly need all the prayers they can get.
Frank and George Baecht of Golden Eagle attended the funeral of their Aunt Alice (Schulze) Polston on Wednesday morning at the Alternative Funeral Home in St. Peters. Visitation was held that morning followed by funeral service and afterwards burial in Warrenton.

The Brussels High School Homecoming began on Friday night with a parade through the village of Brussels. Lots of beautifully decorated floats and even Miss Calhoun Co., Junior Miss and Little Miss and Mister riding in one of them. Then on Saturday evening Royalty was crowned with Hope Odelehr, daughter of Jim and Kathy Odelehr of Golden Eagle and Emma Hagen, daughter of Dave and Kara Hagen of Meppen being crowned. After the coronation a dance followed. Congratulations to both of them!
Descendants of the late Robert and Dena Nolte of Brussels held a family reunion on Sunday at the home of David Nolte and family in Brighton. Attending from this area were George and Yvonne Baecht and Robert and Anita Nolte. A wonderful afternoon of visiting, lots of delicious food, photo taking, etc.
Congratulations to Max Toppmeyer and the Missouri Gators team. They went 7-0 and won the 13th USSSA Major Evolution Tournament in Kansas City over the weekend. Prayer for Columbus Day
Dear Lord, On this day in 1492 the first European mariners discovered the Americas. Hear our prayer this day as we observe Columbus Day. Help us to have a greater awareness of your magnificent gifts to us, the riches of our land and diverse people who form our country. Let us have good health, mentally and physically to solve problems and accomplish something for future generations. Keep us close to you in prayer and help us to be thankful for all you have given us. Amen
