Nominations for the annual Kringle Award presented annually during Jerseyville’s Downtown Country Christmas Festival (DCCF) are being sought through Oct. 22.
The award was created to honor an individual or organization who exemplifies selfless generosity and servant leadership, said Michael Ward, festival coordinator. Recipients of the award “instinctively invoke an unwavering passion for a cause that results in the betterment of the community as a whole,” he said.
Nominees must be Jersey County residents able to attend, or have a representative during the tree lighting at the Nov. 27th event. Forms are available online at downtowncountrychristmas.com/registration.html. Organizers want completed forms submitted by Oct. 22 to Downtown Country Christmas Festival, PO Box 101, Jerseyville, IL 62052.
The recipient is selected by festival board and committee members, accompanied by past recipients.
“This event is a staple in the community,” said Ward. “It has been built over the past five years all because of a wish first made by a little girl from our community.”
That little girl was Jersey County resident, Tess Drainer, a previous recipient of the award. Other past recipients include Kimberly Wade with Kids Shouldn’t Have Cancer, Janice Arnold with Angel Ministries, and Beth McGlasson of the Jersey County Historical Society.
The DCCF is a day of family fun for everyone. They offer children’s activities, food specials at local eateries, hayrides and, of course, photos with Santa! In addition to the family fun, this tourist event also provides many Jerseyville businesses with their busiest day of the year. As it does each year, the festival will again coincide with Small Business Saturday
This festival and light display would not happen without the support of our community. If you are able, we encourage donations to this community-based family event, which also provides economic benefit to many of our small businesses.
