It’s hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember. Two years ago, on Oct. 3, a mother lost a son and Jersey County lost a community member who left this world too soon.
Missy Blade has decided to honor her son, Briley’s, legacy by having a food drive in his memory.
“I’ve decided to do something Briley would. He loved this community with his whole heart, so I’m holding a food drive to give back to the community,” Blade said.
Blade began this idea 13 days ago and within the 1st day she already collected two to three tubs of food and people were donating money for Blade to be able to purchase food.
Blade was ending her food drive on Oct 4.
She said “ I am excited to see how many donations I will end up with for Briley.”
She posted on her Facebook page letting people know she was doing this and how people can donate.
Blade’s post said, “Please, just place the food in the tote on my porch and sign the clipboard or comment on here. I want to buy a card to send with the food, with everyone’s name. If you want to be a silent donor, that’s fine. Let’s do this for Briley and for the community.”
Blade mentioned that the address where the food and donations are set up at is: 504 North Lafayette Street.
“If you live outta town and like to help, I can pick up food orders from Walmart, Sinclair’s or send me $$ and I’ll shop for you,” Blade said. “The outpouring and support has been unbelievable.”
Blade said at first she was going to shop on Friday, but due to the amount of food it looks like she will be buying, it definitely needs to be driven straight to the food pantry!
“Therefore, food shopping will be done on Monday, the 4th. We are making an incredible impact on this community in Briley’s name,” Blade said. “We are making an incredible impact on this community in Briley’s name and I thank each and every one of you.”
