The Jersey Community High School (JCHS) band held a fundraising event last Friday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m., by selling chili dinners via drive-thru at Jersey Community Middle School.
The chili supper was conducted in a drive-thru fashion due to Covid-19 restrictions. Tickets were largely sold ahead of time, but were also available for purchase at the event. Students worked with parents and managed to sell around 600 of the meal tickets in advance.
The money raised from the ticket sales is going to be used for music stands, which according to JCHS Band Booster Co-President Joan Dougherty, is something the band “desperately needs.” Additional funds will go toward other band expenses, as well as their summer 2022 trip to march at Disney World in Florida.
The drive-thru chili supper was made possible by Hardees of Jerseyville for their donation of chili carriers, Nick’s Pancake House for their donation of chili containers, Jersey Middle School for the use of their kitchen, and all of the band parents who donated drinks for the chili supper.
The band also extended their gratitude to Ginnie Goff, who helped with the middle school setup and prepping of the coolers the day of the event, and to all of the band parents who donated their time and effort to make chili, serve chili, setup/tear down the event, and make the chili supper a successful event.
“We really appreciate everyone supporting our students and our band,” said Dougherty. “Look for us at our next concert, or out on the field!”
