George I. Morton | 86 | Martinsburg

George I. Morton, 86, of Martinsburg, IL passed away Friday afternoon October 22, 2021 at his home.

George was born at home on September 3, 1935, a son of Russell R. and Kittie Smith Morton. He married Ora M. Carter Rains on December 18, 1978 in Martinsburg and Ora preceded him in death on February 7, 2007.

George served as the Martinsburg Township road commissioner for more than twenty years. More recently, he enjoyed being the driver for the Martinsburg Amish community.

George enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Pittsfield Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include a son, David (Becky) Rains of Anna, TX, two daughters, Claudia (Terry) Bonds of Gibson City, and Deanna (Andy) Plantiz of Waverly, fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, three nephews, two nieces and numerous cousins in Missouri.

George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Darrell Morton, and two daughters, Robin Ruzicka and Vickie Chappell.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. Burial will followdc at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Masks are suggested if you plan on attending.
Memorials may be made to the Crossing Food Pantry in Pittsfield or to the Hope Autism Center in Springfield.
