Carmen Ensinger/Greene Prairie Press Gracin Stone, as Wednesday Addams, was the Overall Winner on the evening. Of course she had a little help from Thing and Cousin It.
The City of Greenfield sponsored a Halloween Costume Contest at Rives Lake Saturday evening at the Pavilion with more than 100 kids of all ages and even a few adults participating in the family portion of the event.
Instead of judging the contest by age like most Halloween contests do, Greenfield decided to judge them by the costume theme. There were nine different themes ranging from television characters, Disney themed characters, cowboys and Indians and a variety of other different characters.
The winners of each individual theme then came back up on stage and an overall winner was chosen. The overall winner on the evening was Gracin Stone as Wednesday Addams who had Thing tagging along on her shoulder and carrying Cousin It.
The city served up piping hot chili and hot dogs along with hot chocolate, soda and water to those who were hungry. After the costume contest, children were then allowed to go around trick or treating to the different campsites around the lake.
Each year, the city awards a plaque to the best decorated Halloween themed campsite. This year the award went to Nathan McDaniels and his Voodoo Hut.

Carmen Ensinger/Greene Prairie Press Eighteen-month-old Jami Roeske made a cute little Minnie Mouse when she finally made it up on the stage. She could care less about the contest, however, she was having too much fun just swinging her just swinging her Halloween bucket around trying to take out photographers.

You’ve heard of throwed rolls – Greenfield Mayor Nick Bishop just invented throwed hot dogs. The city of Greenfield provided free chili and hot dogs. The hot dogs were kept in a cooler to keep warm in the back of the kitchen area so rather than simply moving the cooler up with the chili, Bishop simply threw them to whoever was waiting on someone at the window. Might not be the most logical method but it did make for a good photo.
