Veterans’ Day is observed on Nov. 11. The purpose of Veterans Day is to honor America’s veterans for their service and sacrifice. It is a day to set ourselves aside and to honor all who served, both living and deceased.
In fact, Veterans’ Day is largely intended to thank veterans for their dedication and loyal service to their country. Veterans who have served, we owe them everything. We owe them for our safety, our prosperity, our freedom, our lives and our future. Any veteran could have done something more self-serving with their lives as the vast majority of their age group elected to do after high school and college, but no, they chose to serve in our military. It is because of all veterans we salute and thank you for your service.
This year Calhoun High School’s (CHS) faculty, staff, and students invite all veterans and their guests to line up in their vehicles at Calhoun Elementary School (CES) at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10. at 8:45 a.m. Veterans will proceed to the fairgrounds and drive past the football bleachers where they will be honored by a group of our students singing and playing patriotic music.
At the end of the parade, CHS will be providing a drive-thru breakfast outside the band doors for veterans and guests. Please RSVP breakfast order by Nov. 3, by calling CHS’ secretary, Angie Sagez, at 576-2229 or emailing Mrs. Wanda Deffenbaugh at wdeffenbaugh@calhoun40.net. In the event of inclement weather, they will only be doing breakfast pick up beginning at 8:45 a.m.
