Jerseyville Police Chief Brad Blackorby said a 14-year old subject was heading westbound and, instead of waiting for a crosswalk, stepped in front of an oncoming car that the subject hadn’t noticed near the Cheney mansion on U.S. Route 67 and was hit at 10:57 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
The teenager was taken to Jersey Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries by emergency transport, according to Blackorby.
Chief Blackorby explained that it was an accident and the teenager was warned for not using the crosswalk.
Chief Blackorby advises that kids who are leaving and who are headed to lunch should use the crosswalks. He also asked for motorists to slow down while driving and yield for any pedestrian crossing the road on Route 67.
