By Cheyenne Brundies
Hardiness and valor symbolized in the shade of blood shed for our freedom
Purity and innocence represented by the pigment of the clouds on a beautiful day
Perseverance and justice expressed using the ocean’s bold hue
These three colors on fabric mean more than a pretty sight
More than a decorative banner
More than woven cotton waving in the wind
So much more than most will ever know
To veterans, its their trophy, their reward to keep
The prize won for all
The symbol they gave up so much for
A visual aid so that gratitude will never be lost
13 stripes of freedom, 50 stars of unity
Sewn together not by material but with compassion and bravery
For the country they will forever love
For the people in need of their determination
For the generations to come that will form the future world
The flag is forever our thanks to those who will never see one again
Thanks to the ones who gave more than what was given to them
Thanks to the men and women whom we are forever in debt
Thanks to you So this day will always be yours in return
This day will remain to honor the current and fallen
This day means so much more than a date
