The Dr. Silas Hamilton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recognizes Jersey Community High School (JCHS) senior, Edward Roberts, to receive the DAR Good Citizens Award.
Roberts is one of seven area students who have been chosen to receive the award. Other area students are Tessa Clark, Brussels High School; Ella Sievers, Calhoun High School; Whitney Keith, Southwestern High School; Karli Yotter, Bunker Hill High School; Iris Page, Gillespie High School; and Alexis Norwood, Carlinville High School.
Edward Roberts is the son of Jeff and Sandra Roberts. His school activities include football, basketball, tennis, Math League, Academic Challenge, Blue Crew, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Class Council, Student Council and National Honors Society.
He’s a part of the following community activities: Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, junior football camp, junior basketball camp, junior tennis camp and Harvest Fest Fundraiser.
Roberts’ future plans include attending a four-year university and majoring in engineering.
The award is based on leadership, dependability, service, and patriotism. The DAR Good Citizen Program and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools. The faculty nominates three seniors. The senior class then selects one representative from this nominated group to receive the Good Citizen Award.
The Good Citizen winners will be honored at the annual Student Awards Banquet on Monday, March 7, 2022. The Good Citizen essays have been judged and the winner who has advanced to District Competition will be announced at the time of the banquet.
Roberta Groppel and Katie Morgan are co-chairman of the chapter’s Good Citizen Committee.
