District #40 School Board overseas new developments

Calhoun CUSD#40 District On Tuesday, November 16, at 5:30 p.m. During the board meeting Dylan Ringhausen spoke before the board and asked if seniors could leave campus for lunch. The plan would include asking parents permission, a student must have a C average or higher grade point average. A student must not have unexcused absences or discipline history.
Superintendent Andrea Lee said, “The board is taking this into consideration and if approved the seniors will start this second semester. It will also continue to be evaluated.”
Lee also said that Mrs. Adams was introduced as the new high school special education teacher and she shared what she has been doing with the students so far this year.
Lee mentioned that a video was played by Mrs. Lorsbach. She shared with the board what she is doing with the students.
“In the video, it stated how her curriculum will be recognized nationally with Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH). Sarah also shared information about the procedures and learning in her classroom. She believes that the CKH program has helped her students succeed and hopes that everyone sees the value.” Lee said.
In other news, the Strategic Planning Committee met recently to continue their discussion on the district’s objectives for the year. The team set some action plans for some of the goals and reviewed a long list of items related to Operations that will be included on a Building and Grounds. Also the annual safety meeting is set for Nov. 17th with the local fire and police department. Also items prior to the executive session that were approved were CHS and CES School Improvement Plan 2021-22. Updates to the School Safety Plan were included and approved.
“ISBE announced recently that teacher evaluations would not be required again this year due to COVID-19. The Union and Board have agreed to the terms used during the 2020-2021 school year. This MOU is for the 2021-2022 school year only. Also there will be a Tentative Tax Levy hearing at the December meeting.” Lee said. “ This hearing is required if the new year’s levy is over 5% of what was received the previous year.
Annual Statement of Affairs for Publication is required posting from ISBE each year. The document includes salaries for staff, basic district information, and the contracts and expenditures. It will be published on the web page by Dec 1.” Lee also mentioned that the contract with Calhoun County Rural Water District is to begin on the new water connection at the district office and CHS. The project is funded through the DCEO Grant. The board also approved Stacy Allen as the new cook and approved payment for the lost retirement days for Janet Holmes.
