In 2019, JCHS added the learning lab which is a Social and Emotional Learning(SEL) resource center open for all students. Many students struggle with emotional or social issues, such as anxiety, depression and soical isolation. Social Development teaches students how to manage their social and emotional needs; however at times students may need to seek assistance for these issues. The Learning Lab staff are always available for help. The staff is as follows:
Daniel Diamond, Myra Woelfel, Rovin Downing, Gloria Heely, Laura Ross Barbara Kirbach and Kathryn Jones. The staff offers interventions to all students who need help. The school is also hoping to have trained professionals when students need them.
Student Service Coordinator Daniel Diamond said,” I am very proud of the Learning Lab program at JCHS. In terms of what schools offer, it is very unique. Our Goal is to help students to stay on track to graduate by helping them to tackle the problems that happen outside of school,” Diamond said. “We have many students who feel no one understands what they are going through but once they come to the Learning Lab and get assistance, they understand that they can work through their issues and still be at school and successful.”
The JCHS Learning Lab is located upstairs in the lobby loft area and it is open from 7:45 a.m. until the end of the school day. Students who are interested in seeking assistance are encouraged to visit any time of the day.
