Olivia Campbell was honored last week with a dual purpose ceremony in the gym at Western High School. First, flanked by her parents, Orin and Penny Campbell, Olivia signed her letter of intent to be on the throwing squad next year at Southern Illinois University at Carlinville. Campbell also got the first glimpse of her banner to be hung in the gym, noting her as a state champion in discus and a fourth place in shot at last spring’s state tournament. She is believed to be the first female, and maybe the first ever, to sign a letter of intent with a D-1 school. She plans to major in psychology at SIU-C, which she says is a good fit for academically and athletically.
