Money can’t buy the best things in life, but I’ll tell you this much, giving gifts absolutely rocks! For me, there is nothing like watching a family member or friend unwrap a present that I picked out for them.
I pride myself in having impeccable taste when it comes to gift giving. Not to toot my own horn, but, “Toot! Toot!”
Sometimes I have trouble following conversations. It’s not because I don’t care, but because I get confused easily. Despite getting a little lost sometimes, the second someone mentions something they want, or need, my ears are standing at full attention. The mental notes I take are very thorough.
Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, I love them all, but nothing beats the Christmas season. A celebration of my Savior’s birth and I also get to buy presents for everyone I love? Sign me up as Christmas’ number one fan, please.
Here’s the thing, though, I’m a dreadful procrastinator when it comes to holiday shopping. Why am I like this? Honestly, I think it has a lot to do with my level of impatience. If I buy my best friend a really funky purse, or get my brother a pair of concert tickets, I can’t wait more than a few days to give them their gifts.
It has become a yearly tradition for me to spend November and December in a constant state of stress because I know there are a lot of things that I need to buy/make, but I do nothing until the week leading up to Christmas.
Without fail, I always end up scrambling to get everything on my list… and don’t even get me started on last-minute online purchases. We’re just not going to talk about all of the priority-shipping fees I’ve incurred over the years. Oh, and those homemade gifts that end up less-than-amazing because I rushed their creation.
Christmas 2021 will likely be no exception. Perhaps, I will end up getting started a little earlier this season, but we’ll see. I’ve still not purchased a single thing, nor have I even made a list (I probably won’t have time to check it twice). I know there are going to be shipping delays and supply-chain shortages, so I should probably start ordering things now.
I may begin making homemade candles next week, as I do every year. They are the only things that could potentially be ready ahead of schedule.
Honestly, folks, I should probably accept my fate. Cheers to another Christmas Eve spent wrapping presents until 3 a.m… with my mom, the other procrastinator.
