Calhoun Nursing and Rehab now has the Adopt A Resident Tree up outside our facility. You can pick up a bulb which will list a resident’s wish list for gifts. (Carissa Sitki/Calhoun News-Herald)

There’s no need to wait to get into the holiday spirit — seniors and staff at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab (CNR) are already to celebrate. Do you want to make a huge difference in a person’s life? Then, take advantage of programs such as Calhoun Nursing and Rehab (CNR) Adopt A Resident Tree, which is up outside their facility. Have you thought about adopting a resident for Christmas?
Unfortunately, a lot of CNR’s residents do not receive visits or calls from their family members, and that means they will often feel lonely.
When you adopt a resident for the holiday season, you can make sure this person is receiving special items that come from the heart and brightening their holiday spirit. There are many ways to give to a CNR’s residents. Some examples could be as follows:
A person can create their own care packages for a resident, bake treats for them, and offer companionship by visiting facilities regularly to spend time with a resident.
Stop by and pick up a light bulb off the tree. On the bulb are suggestions for gifts to give the resident. Wrap your items and bring them back with the light bulb by Dec. 17. You can adopt a resident for Christmas and make their holiday season special. CNR is taking donations to help residents who may not otherwise get presents around the holidays. Anyone interested in donating can call the facility at 618.576.2278.
