Volunteers are needed to help man the famous Red Kettles throughout Jersey County. Most people are familiar when they hear those bells ringing at locations throughout Jerseyville. The funds raised during November and December stay in our community to assist families throughout the next year. On Friday, Nov. 26, Connie Skinner (left) and Julie Pluhar (right) rang the bells for the Tree of Lights. Connie is the daughter and Julie is the granddaughter of Rev R. E. George, he is the founder of The Salvation Army in Jersey County and the former Pastor of First United Methodist Church. Connie said, “This is the 61st year that her family has rung the bells for The Salvation Army.” Ringing the bell can be fun and is a very serious matter and it is a fixture around the holiday season. The bell ringing campaign continues to Dec. 18.
