Zach Evans scored 32 points to lead West Central to a 71-60 win over Beardstown Nov. 27 in the fifth-place game of the Beardstown Thanksgiving Tournament.
Evans and Tysyn Mast each made the All-Tournament team.
Peyton Hartley made a three-point basket at the buzzer, and the Cougars led 15-13 after one quarter.
Beardstown led 18-17 early in the second quarter. Tyson Brown grabbed an offensive rebound and scored and made a three-point basket to give West Central a 22-18 lead. The Cougars never trailed again.
Brown scored to start an 11-2 run that extended West Central’s 30-26 halftime lead to 13 points. Brown, Evans and Mast each made three-point baskets, and the Cougars led 41-28 with 5:29 remaining in the quarter.
West Central made six three-point baskets in the third quarter and led by as many as 19 points. The Cougars led 55-39 after three quarters and never led by less than 10 points in the fourth.
The Cougars made nine three-point baskets in the game. Evans made three. Mast, Brown and Hartley each made two.

Brown scored 12 points for West Central (3-1). Mast and Hartley each scored 10. Chance Little scored six points, and Lathan Barnett scored one.
Eleven players scored as West Central beat Rushville-Industry 78-36 Nov. 22 in its first game.
Brown converted a three-point play to give the Cougars a 16-13 lead with 1:11 remaining in the first quarter. Mast scored twice, and West Central led 20-16 after one quarter.
West Central scored the first 10 points of the second quarter to extend its lead to 30-16. It led 45-20 at halftime.
Mast scored 20 points, including 12 in the first quarter, to lead West Central. Chance Little scored 11.
Hartley scored nine points, and Mason Berry scored eight. Brown scored seven points. Evans and Jackson Ford each scored six points. Barnett scored four points, and Jack Fry scored three. Parker Hoots and Jaydon Howard each scored two points.
The Cougars made eight free throws in the final 3 minutes and held off Brown County 67-57 Nov. 23 in its second game.
West Central led just 59-55 with 3 minutes remaining when a player from Brown County was called for a personal foul and two technical fouls.
Brown made two free throws, and Evans made three to extend the Cougars’ lead to 64-55.
Little scored inside, and Jaydon Howard made two free throws late in the third quarter to give West Central a 47-44 lead.
Evans and Mast each scored five points early in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 57-44 with 5:25 remaining in the game.
Evans scored 26 points and made five three-point baskets to lead the Cougars. Mast scored 13 points and made two three-point baskets.
Little scored eight points, and Hartley scored seven. Howard scored six points, and Brown scored four. Barnett scored three points.
Griggsville-Perry made two free throws with 5.5 seconds remaining in the third overtime and beat West Central 70-69 Nov. 24.
The Cougars made just 24 of 47 free throw attempts in the game and made just 2 of 11 attempts in the third overtime.
Griggsville-Perry made a three-point basket with 1 second remaining in the second overtime to tie the game at 65.
Mast scored 19 points to lead West Central. Brown scored 12 points, and Little scored 11. Barnett and Evans each scored 10 points. Hartley scored seven points.
