The carriage, being pulled by a very large Percheron called Scooby Doo, gets ready to leave Carrollton Square Friday evening from in front of the cannon. Carrollton Bank paid for two hours of carriage rides for anyone in the community. The carriage would hold nine passengers and there was a steady line for the full two hours. There is an old saying that absence makes the heart grow fonder and this certainly seemed to be the case this past Friday night with the 15th Annual Home For The Holidays Carrollton Christmas Parade sponsored by the Carrollton Chamber of Commerce.
One of the big draws this year were the free carriage rides courtesy of Carrollton Bank. Brookdale Farms, out of St. Louis and Eureka Mo. Brought an antique nine-seater carriage and a very large Percheron horse named Scooby Doo to take folks on a 10-minute carriage ride around the square and surrounding blocks.
While waiting for the parade to begin, Mt. Gilead Baptist Church provided free hot dogs and hot chocolate and several other places around the square also offered free hot chocolate and cookies.
Some folks got really creative for their parade entries. For example, All About You Beauty Bar and Boutique created Whoville. It wasn’t their float which was so amazing as the characters from Whoville that traveled alongside the float that caught the attention of the parade goers.
Of course, having a hair salon at their disposal helped immensely, but some of the little ones had some really amazing Who hairdos and the costumes weren’t too shabby either.
Santa always brings up the rear of the parade and this year he did it in style – in the back of the carriage being pulled by Scooby Doo.
