Three players scored in double figures, and West Central beat Brown County 66-57 in boys’ basketball Dec. 3 at Bluffs.
The Cougars (5-1) led 51-39 after three quarters, but Brown County scored the first eight points of fourth quarter. Chance Little made one of two free throws, Peyton Hartley scored on a jumper, and Little scored to extend the lead to 56-47 with 3:39 remaining in the game.
Brown County went on a 10-2 run and got within 58-57 after making a three-point basket with 1:29 remaining in the game.
Hartley made one of two free throws, and after Brown County missed a three-point shot attempt, Little scored again to extend the lead to 61-57 with 42 seconds remaining.
Tysyn Mast made two free throws with 37 seconds remaining, and Hartley made a free throw with 16 seconds to give West Central a 64-57 lead. Mast made two free throws with 7.8 seconds for the final margin.
Zach Evans scored twice, and Mast made a three-point basket as the Cougars jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the game. They led 15-10 after one quarter.
Mast made another three-point basket, and Evans made a three-point basket as West Central extended its lead to 24-12 in the second quarter and led 32-20 at halftime.
Brown County cut the margin to 37-32 in the third quarter. Tyson Brown made a three-point basket, and after a Brown County turnover, Evans made a three-point basket, and West Central led 43-32.
The Cougars led 43-34 before Evans, Brown and Mast each scored to extend the lead to 49-34, and they led by 12 points heading into the final quarter.
Mast scored 20 points and had eight rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead West Central. Evans scored 15 points. Little scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds.
Hartley scored nine points and had five rebounds and three assists. Brown scored five points. Lathan Barnett scored one point and had three assists.
West Central won the junior varsity game 40-37.
Cameron Sievers scored 13 points for the Cougars. Jaydon Howard and Dalton Hutton each scored nine points. Carson Brown scored seven points. Mason Berry and Landon Woods each scored one point.
