On Wednesday, October 27th, the third and fourth grade students from St. Mary School, along with their teacher, Mrs. Maureen Tepen and several chaperones, traveled to Springfield to attend the annual Mission Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Monsignor David Hoefler, vicar general, concelebrated the Mass with several other priests of the diocese. Monsignor Hoefler spoke of the good that comes from helping others through the missions. As he mentioned, a missionary attitude is one given from the heart. After the Mass, several schools were recognized for their fundraising efforts for the Missionary Childhood Association. Donna Moore, director of the Office for the Missions, thanked the schools for their efforts and announced the winners. The awards were based on per capita contributions to the missions during the 2020-2021 school year. The schools recognized were: first place, St. Louis School, Nokomis; second place, Sacred Heart School, Pana; third place, St. Mary School, Brussels; fourth place, St. Boniface School, Edwardsville; and fifth place, St. Agnes School, Springfield. Each school received a beautifully painted ceramic cross and a framed certificate for their accomplishment. (Submittet photo)
