■ Douglas Automotive, Great Rivers Bank and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce will hold a grand opening ribbon cutting and open house at Douglas Automotive, at 303 W. Jefferson in Pittsfield, on Friday, Dec. 10. The ribbon cutting will take place at 11 a.m., and the open house will run from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Hot dogs and chips will be provided by Great Rivers Bank.
■ The Barry Community Chorus will present Tidings of Great Joy by Joseph Martin on Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Barry United Methodist Church on Perry St. Barry. The cantata presents the birth story of Jesus Christ in song and narration. It will be directed by Judy Steers, accompanied by Cindy Piper, and narrated by Rev. JoAnn Ruff and Rev. Dan North. Soloists include: Teresa Goetten, Gretchen Hodges, Tina Moyer and Larry Stapleton. Teresa will also be featured on the Penny Whistle. The public is cordially invited to attend. Baskets to help defray expenses will be located at the exits of the church.
■ A live nativity will be held Dec. 18 from 6-8 p.m. across from McDonald’s in Pittsfield. The activity is sponsored by the Detroit Christian Church.
■ The Pike County Health Department (PCHD) was chosen by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) to participate in a Rural Testing Pilot to provide FREE COVID-19 testing for community members.
■ PCHD staff will provide the FREE DRIVE-THRU COVID-19 testing at the Pike-Scott Farm Bureau located at 1301 E Washington St. in Pittsfield. Testing clinics will run Monday-Thursday, 9 .m. – 1 p.m, beginning Dec. 6, Monday.
■ Backyard Bible Club is hosting a Merry Little CHRISTmas Party this Saturday, Dec. 11at 10 a.m. at the Griggsville United Methodist Church. Party will include music, snacks/movie: The Very First Noel and games including Nativity Escape Room. Families and children invited.
