William Frank Schumann | 97 | Kampsville

William Frank Schumann, 97, Kampsville, passed away Dec. 1, 2021 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab.
He was born Sept. 24, 1924 in Kampsville, and was the eldest son of Frank and Bertha (Hartman) Schumann.
He married Mary Ellen Toner in 1944 at St. Patricks Church, Oungannen Northern Ireland.
Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force April 1943 at Scott AFB, IL. He took his basic training at Kessler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi. After BT he headed overseas where he was stationed at Liverpool England, Colen Northern Ireland, Laharre France and Roth AFB Germany.
Bill was a lifetime farmer until his retirement in 1984. He was a proud member of Kampsville post 1083 for 68 years, and commander for 20 years. He enjoyed listening to Cardinal’s games.
He is survived by a son, Charles J. Schumann of Kampsville; sisters, Betty (Ben) Reeves of Burlington, IA; Barbara (Durlin) Craigmiles of Lewistown, IL; Lola Hoover of Pearl; Hazel (Gary) Mortland of Cartere, IL; Peggy Donnelly; brother-in-law Michael (Phil) Mckenna of Dungannon, Northern Ireland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Schumann; parents, Frank and Bertha Schumann; brother, Karl Schumann of Kampsville; sister, Evelyn (Alfred) Barnes, Canton, IL; brother-in-law, Bob Hoover of Pearl, Barney Toner, Lawrence Toner, Jimmy Donnelly of Dungannon, Northern Ireland; sister-in-law, Nan Toner, Philomena Toner, Dungannon, Northern, Ireland, Philomena Mckenna, Dungannon Northern Ireland; and father and mother-in-law, Charles and Sarah Toner.
Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home, Hardin, IL.
Funeral Services were held Monday, Dec. 6, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home, Hardin.
Burial to follow at St. Anselm’s Cemetery, Kampsville.
