Richard Lee Frazier | 86 | Pittsfield

Richard Lee Frazier, born Aug. 16, 1935, in Quincy, Illinois to Richard Owens and Anna Carolyn Kientzle Frazier, passed away Dec. 20, 2021, at age 86 at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Illinois. He married Constance Shue in 1957, and to this union, four children were born. In 1983, Richard married Nancy Louise Massey Six. They were blessed with one daughter.
Richard graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1953 and was an outstanding athlete, competing in football, basketball, and track. After high school, he attended Quincy College for one year and played on the football team. Then, he returned to Pittsfield where he joined the family business of Kientzle Shoe Store in Pittsfield until his retirement.
Richard’s love of sports extended to his life after high school and college. He was often in the bleachers to watch his children play sports. He also coached Little League and Khoury League baseball for a number of years, and he could be found in the backyard helping his children improve their skills. For many years, Richard was on the sidelines of the football field of the Pittsfield Saukees as a member of the chain gang. He had a passion for golf and was the only surviving active charter member of Old Orchard Country Club in Pittsfield. He continued to golf until the spring of this year when his health no longer allowed him to play. He was also a member of Moose Lodge #420.
Richard was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pittsfield and through the years served as an altar boy, lector, and usher.
Richard is survived by daughter Julie O’Brien and husband Jerry of Fort Branch, Indiana, daughter Susan Shireman and husband Jeff of Pittsfield, son Rick Frazier and girlfriend Brandon Thompson of Springfield, daughter Mary Kay Webel and husband Dave of Pittsfield, and daughter Ricsha Franks and husband KC of Pittsfield. Also surviving are grandson Conor O’Brien, his wife Stephanie, and their three children Rayleigh, Ian, and Madden of Springfield, Illinois; granddaughter Addy O’Brien and her boyfriend Ethan Herrick of Springfield; and grandson Konnor and granddaughter Fareyn Franks of Pittsfield. In addition, he is survived by two stepsons, Todd Six and girlfriend Amy Alexander of Clearwater, Florida and Scott Six, wife Carol and family of South Carolina. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Teresa Frazier, sister Sue Yonikus, sister and brother-in-law Joyce Frazier and Jay Leahy, sister-in-law Ina Frazier, brother-in-law Bob Pressey, and sister-in-law Christine Denison and husband Mike as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy, sister Kathy Pressey, brother Roger Frazier, and brother-in-law Dan Yonikus.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021 with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Due to the increased COVID cases, masks will be required for the service and social distancing is to be observed. Memorials are suggested to be made to Calvary Cemetery or Saukee Nation.
