Tysyn Mast scored 21 points, and West Central beat Lakeland Christian Academy 66-57 at the Hoosier Gym Dec. 18 in Knightstown, Ind.
Hoosier Gym is where the movie Hoosiers was filmed. The movie came out in 1986.
West Central coach Ryan Sichting, and LCA coach Josh Ritchie were teammates at Lincoln Land Community College. LCA is located in Winona Lake, Indiana.
The Cougars led 39-30 at halftime, but LCA got within 45-44 with 3:30 remaining in the third quarter.
Zack Evans converted a three-point with 2:51 remaining to extend the lead to four points. After LCA made two free throws, Jaydon Howard made two free throws with 35 seconds remaining. West Central led 50-46 after three quarters.
Mast scored five points early in the fourth quarter to extend the lead back to nine points, 55-46, with 7:04 remaining in the game. Evans scored to give the Cougars a 63-52 lead with 3:38 remaining.
LCA scored seven straight points to get within 63-59 and missed a three-point attempt with 54 seconds remaining that could have cut the margin to one point.
Mast made three free throws, and Evans made one in the final 42 seconds to seal the win.
LCA led 7-3 early in the game and led 14-12 after Jaydon Howard scored with 1:34 remaining in the first quarter. Mast made a three-point basket with 38 seconds remaining, and the Cougars led 15-14 after one quarter as LCA missed a shot at the buzzer.
The game was at 17-all before the Cougars scored eight straight points.
Chance Little scored, Jaydon Howard grabbed an offensive rebound and scored, Jackson Ford scored, and Mast had a steal and scored on a layup as West Central took a 25-17 lead with 5:24 remaining in the second quarter.
Little converted a three-point play to give West Central a 30-20 lead. LCA scored 10 straight points to tie the game, but West Central scored the last nine points of the first half.
Howard scored to give West Central the lead for good. Mast scored two baskets and converted on two free throws, and the Cougars led 38-30 with 20 seconds remaining. Little made one of two free throws with 1 second remaining, and the Cougars led by nine points at halftime.
Mast scored 11 points, and Howard scored eight in the first half.
Evans scored 15 points, including 12 in the second half. Howard scored 10 points.
Little scored eight points, and Lathan Barnett scored five. Ford, Tyson Brown, Mason Berry and Payton Hartley each scored two points.
