West Central made 11 three-point field goals and beat Calhoun 62-31 in boys’ basketball Dec. 14 at Hardin.
The game was tied 7-all early in the game. Tysyn Mast made a three-point basket, and Payton Hartley made a free throw to give the Cougars a 10-7 lead. They led for the remainder of the game.
West Central led 11-9 and scored 11 straight points. Zack Evans scored, Tyson Brown and Hartley each made three-point baskets, and Brown converted a three-point play as the Cougars extended their lead to 22-9. They led 22-11 after one quarter.
Calhoun cut the margin to 22-15 before Hartley, Evans and Mast made consecutive three-point baskets, and Evans grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to extend the lead to 33-15. West Central led 36-16 at halftime.
The Cougars led 42-22 in the third quarter and Evans made a three-point basket, and Brown and Mast both scored, and they led 49-22 with 5:07 remaining in the quarter. Lathan Barnett scored with 1 second remaining as West Central led 60-27 at the end of the quarter.
West Central made 11 of 19 three-point attempts in the game. Evans made four three-point baskets, and Brown made three. Hartley and Mast each made two.
Evans scored 20 points and had six rebounds and five assists. Brown scored 14 points and had four rebounds and four steals. Mast scored 10 points and had five assists and four rebounds.
Hartley scored seven points. Barnett scored six points and had five rebounds. Parker Hoots and Cole Meyer each scored two points. Chance Little scored one point and had five rebounds.
The Cougars won the junior varsity game 48-26.
Mason Berry scored 19 points, and Jaydon Howard scored 12. Carson Brown scored six points, and Dalton Hutton scored five. Derek Price scored for points, and Cameron Sievers scored two.
