I’m sure everyone had a wonderful and blessed Christmas, being able to attend Christmas Eve and Day church services, gathering with your family afterwards and enjoying a delicious meal, gift exchange, visiting, etc. The weather was gorgeous, in the upper 60s on Christmas Day!
On Saturday, Dec. 18, 16 family members of the Bernie and Gloria Snyders family enjoyed a pre-Christmas dinner, followed by gift exchange, visiting and photo taking. Sons, Joe, Tim and Dan and their families were present for the wonderful day together.
On Tuesday, Dec. 21, Bernard “Bernie” Snyders underwent an eight hour back surgery at John Cochran Hospital in St. Louis. Keep him in your prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.
Roy and Barb Hagen hosted Christmas Eve at their home with 25+ people in attendance. Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal, gift exchange and wonderful evening together. Present were Lee and Elaine Mans, Kenny and Judy Devening, Dave and Kara Hagen and Derrick and Jan Bick and all their families, also Tony Moennig and friend Judy Peer.
Fred Herter of Golden Eagle enjoyed Christmas Day breakfast with Al and Diane Herter of Wentzville, MO. Diane has been creating her special breakfast for years, which includes a champagne toast and was happy to share this tradition with Fred who brought gifts of flowers, eggnog and a thoughtful nostalgic plaque with him. Al and Diane are happy to be living in this home area and can now visit family and old friends anytime.
George and Yvonne Baecht entertained family members on Christmas Eve. Present were Keith and Becky Baecht, Matthew and Samuel of Jerseyville and Daniel and Leann Baecht and Connor of Battlefield, MO. They all enjoyed a wonderful meal and evening together.
Christmas Day dinner guests of Trevor and Cyndi Axford of Chesterfield were their daughters Mackenzie and Madison and friend David Morrow, also Dennis and Shelly Scherer of Wright City, John and Julie Carnes, Lydia and Caleb of Edwardsville and Hannah Carnes of Philadelphia, PA and myself. Everyone enjoyed the appetizers, and tasty Cosmopolitan’s, Rudolph’s and other various cocktails. That evening, a delicious dinner of beef tenderloin, baked ham and all the trimmings was served. Afterwards, there was a gift exchange, followed by a rousing game of Rob Your Neighbor and then various desserts and coffee before everyone departed for home. I stayed overnight and spent Sunday with them, returning home that evening.
On Sunday, the Toppmeyer siblings spent the day with their dad Francis in Golden Eagle. Present were Ed and Lisa Heffington and Evan, Emily and Augie Kane, all of Godfrey; Matt and Ellen Nichols & girls of Springfield; John and Julie Carnes, Lydia and Caleb of Edwardsville; Hannah Carnes of Philadelphia; Todd and Jane Mandernach and Wyatt of Marthasville; and Mark and Mary Toppmeyer, Max, Maggie and friend Josh Wieneke. The morning began with a wonderful brunch brought by the three families, then gift exchange and games. That evening, sandwiches, soups, side dishes and desserts were enjoyed before everyone headed for home.
John and Hannah Carnes visited with me a couple hours on Sunday night and Julie, Lydia and Caleb joined us later for a visit. Hannah flew back to Philadelphia on Monday after spending five days with her family. She is a Graphic Designer for the City of Philadelphia, Department of Public Health.
Don and JoAnn Bieker of Golden Eagle entertained on Christmas Day with lots of delicious food and gifts for all. Present were Dylan Bieker and friend Dellaray, Brittany Snyder and friend Cody Straight, Travis Snyder and friend Morgan Moeller and Owen Snyder all of Portage des Sioux, MO. They all enjoyed a wonderful day together.
Birthday Blessings this week to my granddaughter, Lydia Carnes; also, Jaize Johnes, Megan Nolte, Dorothy Meyer, Terry Woelfel, Kevin Carey, Sharon Nance, Kevin Eberlin, Katie (Held) Kinder, Duane Mossman, Missy Rowling, Mindy Snider and all others celebrating their natal day at this time.
Happy Anniversary to Bob and Anita Nolte and all other couples celebrating their wedding anniversary this week.
Prayer for the New Year
Mighty God, you exceed the bounds of time and see all things, past, present and future. Thank you for bringing us safely through this past year and forgiving us when we did wrong. Show us how to encourage the people around us to attend church, partake of your body and blood through communion and to spread Your Word whenever you can. Help us embrace the future and graciously receive the blessings You have in store for us in 2022. In Christ’s name we pray.
