Zack Evans scored 20 points, and West Central beat South County 58-25 in basketball Dec. 21 at Waverly.
The Cougars made 23 of 51 (45 percent) field goal attempts in the game. South County made just seven of 32 attempts (22 percent).
Evans scored consecutive baskets to give West Central a 6-4 lead early in the game. South County scored the next basket before the Cougars scored the next 17 points.
Tysyn Mast scored, and Evans made a three-point basket after Lathan Barnett grabbed an offensive rebound. Jaydon Howard and Tyson each made two free throws, and Chance Little scored off an assist Brown, who had a steal.
Mast had a steal and scored, and the Cougars led 17-4 after one quarter.
Mast and Evans each scored as West Central increased its lead to 23-4 lead with 7:19 remaining in the second quarter. The Cougars led 34-15 at halftime.
The Cougars led 34-18 in the third quarter before they scored 18 straight points. Evans scored six points, and Mast scored four points and had two steals during the run. West Central led 52-19 after three quarters.
Evans also had five steals and four rebounds for West Central.
Mast scored 10 points and had four steals and three assists. Brown scored seven points and had three assists and three steals.
Payton Hartley scored five points. Barnett scored four points and had six rebounds. Parker Hoots and Mason Berry each scored four points. Howard scored two points and had six rebounds. Little scored two points.
South County won the junior varsity game 50-37.
Berry scored 10 points to lead the Cougars. Howard scored eight points. Caden Meyer and Cameron Sievers each scored five points. Derek Price scored four points, and Carson Brown scored three. Dalton Hutton scored two points.
