The Calhoun County Health Department (CCHD) has released the COVID-19 report for December, which showed 222 new cases of the virus during the month. Additionally, there have been 138 more cases reported from Jan. 1 through Jan. 7.
With the new cases, the county has now had 1,179 since the start of the pandemic. There have also been a total of seven deaths related to COVID, since the start. Of the new cases in December, 29 percent of them were among vaccinated individuals.
As of Tuesday, Jan. 11, 39.65 percent of Calhoun County has been fully vaccinated against the virus. Last week’s update incorrectly stated that 29 percent of the county was vaccinated, when the actual number was 39.57 percent.
The CCHD regularly holds COVID vaccine clinics and testing, by appointment. They are located at 210 French St. and open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They can be reached at 618-576-2428.
