Hugh Dee McIntire | 71 | Winchester

Hugh Dee McIntire of Winchester died Monday evening Jan. 24, 2022 at the Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester after a nearly five-year battle with Lymphoma cancer. He was born in Pittsfield Oct. 1, 1950 to Hubert and Gilda Hazelwonder McIntire.
He was preceded by his parents and an older brother Robert L. Reddish. His is survived by his wife Linda McIntire of Jacksonville, two step daughters, Rachel Lagruzon of San Diego and Amy Baker of St. Louis, he is also survived by his brother Rex (wife Caryl) McIntire of Winchester, sister Tamba McIntire Wells of Lafayette, Louisiana, nephew Bobby (Carol) Reddish, niece Rhonda (Bill) Baxter of Jacksonville, nephew Jeff McIntire (companion Sue) of Winchester, niece Jennifer McIntire (Reggie) Summers of Panama City Beach, Florida, niece Jarah McIntire (Nick) McAdams of Jacksonville, nephew Dr. Gregory Morgan, niece Rachel Wells (Lantz) Lafleur of Lafayette, Louisiana, as well as several great nephews and nieces. He loved them all and he took great interest in their life activities, especially their educational and sporting accomplishments. Hugh graduated from Winchester High School in 1968, where he participated in football and baseball. He was proud of being a unanimous selection to the 1967 IVC all conference football team, and awarded the “Darrell Spang Award”, the MVP award voted by members of his fellow Wildcat teammates. That team was loaded with many smaller players who like Hugh over-achieved due to their tremendous grit and determination.
Hugh graduated from Illinois College in 1972. He was honorably discharged from the US Army and was a member of the Winchester American Legion Julian Wells Post 442. He farmed with his father and worked for Coon’s Elevator and the Jacksonville Journal Courier. He was an honest, kind and compassionate man who was loved by those who knew him.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Springfield Memorial Hospital, the nurses at Cass/Schuyler Hospice, and a very special thanks to Debbie Odell, nurses and staff at the Scott County Nursing Center who provided such wonderful compassion and care for the short time Hugh was a resident there.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am Wednesday Feb. 2, 2022 at St. Mark’s Church in Winchester. Burial will be in Greenpond Cemetery near Pearl. A visitation will be held on Tuesday Feb. 1, 2022 from 5 until 8 pm at the Conrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Rosary service will be at 4:45. Memorials can be made to the West Central Cougar Boosters or the Scott County Nursing Center.
