McKendree University men’s wrestling earned five Scholar All-Americans as the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced its individuals and team honorees on Friday afternoon. The five Bearcats who were named to the NWCA’s Scholar All-American list were senior Vincenzo Scaletta (197), sophomore Logan Kvien (197), redshirt freshman Ryan Haynes (157), freshman Zane Phillips (174), and freshman Noah Villarreal (149). McKendree’s super region IV ranked second in the country with 63 student-athletes being honored while super region V led at 68 total Scholar All-Americans.
In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for those who qualified for the 2022 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships and 3.0 for those who earned NCAA DII All-American status for the 2022 season. The athlete must also have competed in a minimum of four dates of competition.
