The request from the Pike County Fair Board to remove two of the livestock show barns at the fairgrounds has been withdrawn.
“We received a lot of feedback and have decided at this time to go another direction,” Mike McKinnon, president of the fair board, said. “We are going to obtain parking farther away and use trams or shuttles to transport people to and from the fair on derby nights.”
The fair board had approached the village board, who owns the fairgrounds, about removing two of the livestock grounds to increase much needed parking and the pit area on demolition derby night.
The matter was discussed at the March meeting of the Pleasant Hill Village Board with several fair board members speaking in favor and two 4-H advocates speaking against tearing down the barns as well as presenting a petition signed by people who were opposed.
The village board tabled the matter until they could get a legal ruling on who actually owned the buildings, the fair board or the village board. That ruling was expected at last night’s Pleasant Hill village board meeting, but after the fair board’s withdrawal it was not on the agenda.
