Germania Brew Haus in Jerseyville was greeted with a line of eager customers at 6 a.m. on Friday, April 15, when they opened up shop for their first official day of business at 309 N. State Street.
Jerseyville residents stopped by all day on Friday, mingling with friends, sipping coffee, and enjoying house made baked-goods. “Business has been steady since we opened,” said Store Manager Jamie Kuehnel late Friday morning. “People rushed the door at 6 a.m.”
The business held their soft open on Thursday, April 14, from 7 to 10 a.m. which also brought in steady business, according to Kuehnel. “We held our soft open yesterday which gave us an idea of how employee stations needed to work and how things were going to go. It’s been great so far,” she said.
The new business has been welcomed by the community with open arms. One customer who was standing in line for a caramel latte said she has been excited about Germania for months and believes the addition will be great for Jerseyville.
Another couple, Kevin and Becca Kitson, whose daughter, Jackie Maynard, will soon be working at Germania, enjoyed coffees and conversation on the shop’s opening day. Kevin was enthusiastic and found himself reminiscing on a business that used to occupy the Germania building. “I never thought I’d be sitting in Norton Hardware having a coffee,” he said. “But seriously, this place is awesome.”
Becca thinks highly about Germania as well. “It’s nice to see something come to town that has a younger aesthetic,” she said. “My kids are in their early 20s and this is somewhere I could see them hanging out.”
Kuehnel said that Germania is grateful to Jerseyville for being so supportive. “Everything and everyone has been wonderful. No one has walked through the door in a bad mood.” she said. “The community really turned out and it means so much us.”
Germania Brew Haus is open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Their drive-thru is set to open on April 30. For more information, visit their website at, germaniabrewhaus.com. They can also be found on Facebook.
