A prisoner being escorted to the Greene County Jail from Scott County took off on foot upon arrival in Carrollton and was apprehended nearly seven hours later.
A Scott County deputy was transporting Tony L. Henson, 34, Jacksonville, to the Greene County Jail.
According to Greene County Jail booking reports, Henson had been arrested in Scott County for Criminal Trespass to Land, and was to be incarcerated in the Greene County Jail.
Upon arriving at the Greene County Jail, Henson was removed from the transport vehicle by the Scott County deputy. As he was being escorted to the jail he immediately ran from the deputy. Although Henson was secured in handcuffs at the time of his arrest, he was able to elude the deputy, who engaged in a brief foot pursuit.
Law Enforcement personel from the Scott and Greene County Sheriff’s Departments, the Carrollton, Roodhouse and White Hall Police Departments, as well as the Illinois State Police, began a mobile and foot search of the area near where Henson was last seen at, along with police K9 and support of an Illinois State Police aircraft, specialy with equipped with heat sensing equipment.
The officers responded to several reports from residents seeing Henson running on foot in areas near Boyd Hospital.
Henson was located on Monday, April 11, at approximately 6:33 a.m., hiding underneath the porch of a residence on Maple Street in Carrollton. Henson was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Jail, where he currently remains lodged.
Henson was charged in Greene County Circuit Court with misdemeanor escape. He is scheduled for arraignment on that charge on April 27 at 9 a.m..
