The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the eastbound Interstate 72 exit ramp for Illinois 100 and the Illinois 100 entrance ramp to eastbound I-72 will be closed beginning Monday, April 25.
Work on these ramps include removing and replacing deteriorated concrete. It is estimated that these first two ramp replacements will take approximately three to four weeks to complete. Once the improvements on these ramps are completed, the westbound I-72 exit ramp for Illinois 100 and the Illinois 100 entrance ramp to westbound I-72 will close, also taking about three to four weeks to complete.
These ramp improvements are part of the $13 million I-72 resurfacing project that began in 2021 and is scheduled to be completed later this summer. The reason for this project is that portions of the concrete ramp pavement have reached the end of their lifespan. This project will restore the durability of the pavement along with the ride quality.
Motorists will need to use an alternate route when these ramps are closed and are encouraged to follow the marked detour. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
