The Jersey Panthers softball team hosted and proceeded to defeat the Civic Memorial Eagles in a conference game, 12-7.
The first inning was silent with no runs scored, as well as the top of the second. The Panthers drove in two runs in the bottom of the inning to break the stalemate and take a 2-0 lead. The Eagle’s offense failed to score in the top of the third, while the Panthers scored four more runs and extended the lead to 6-0.
Down by six in the top of the fourth, the Eagles rallied together and drove in seven runs to take the lead 7-6. The Panthers scored nothing in the bottom of the fourth after being taken off guard by the Eagle’s offense.
The Panthers did good damage control in the top of the fifth and held the Eagles at zero runs. Then in the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers scored four runs and led the game again 10-7.
The Panthers scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth ending the game ahead of the Eagles, 12-7.
The Panthers currently hold a 13-8 win-loss record. They hold a 4-2 record in the MVC Conference at second place. They play against the Calhoun Warriors on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
