Robert E. ‘Bud’ Norton | 91 | Springfield

Robert E. “Bud” Norton, age 91, of Springfield, Ill. and formerly of Milton, Il. and Waverly, Ill. died Wednesday afternoon, May 25, 2022, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.
He was born Dec. 1, 1930 in Pittsfield, Ill. son of the late Robert Irvin and Aileen McFaddin Norton.
He married Carol Ann Cornell on June 16, 1957 and she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Robert “Bob Bob” Norton of Waverly, Ill.; and Susan Beth Mulrooney of Springfield, Ill.; three grandchildren, Lucian Norton (Tiffany) of Virden, Ill., Megan McBride (Zach) of Springfield, Ill., and Michelle Wester (fiancée Austin Sloan) of Riverton, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren, Zayden, Riley, Grace , Juliet, Olivia, Emma, and Dean; two sisters, Alice Vonau of Woodruff, Wis. and Doris Mixer of Springfield, Ill.;  and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Dehen Mulrooney.
Bud was a 1949 graduate of Milton High School in Milton, Ill.  After high school he farmed and later worked for General Telephone before being drafted by the Marine Corps during Korea. He returned from serving his country and worked for GTE for 42 years before his retirement. After retirement he worked for First Student as a bus monitor in Springfield for twelve years. He was a member of the Riverton Christian Church and was a past Sunday school superintendent at the Milton Christian when they lived in Milton. He was also a member of Pittsfield Masonic Lodge, IBEW and was also Boy Scout leader in Milton, Il. and Waverly for twenty years.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Ill.  Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery with military rites conducted by Waverly American Legion Post.  Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Waverly American Legion or Waverly Boy Scout Troop 115 and sent to Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 Tanner St. Waverly, Ill. 62692.  Condolences may be sent to the family at
